Shilajit Dose and Timing: Clinical Trial Dosing Report

This report from The Yeti Life lists the doses actually given in published human trials of shilajit. Across five trials, participants took between 200 mg and 500 mg a day, for 28 days to 48 weeks. No trial found for this report compared morning and evening dosing, or taking shilajit with or without food.

What the doses can and cannot tell you

  • The range studied is 200–500 mg a day. Operation Supplement Safety likewise refers to studies of up to 500 mg of extract.
  • More was not always better. In the 2019 strength trial, 500 mg a day differed from placebo but 250 mg a day did not.
  • The materials differ. Four trials used purified, processed or standardised preparations and one used resin, so a milligram in one study may not equal a milligram of another product.
  • Batches vary. Cleveland Clinic notes that shilajit composition changes with location and other factors, which makes a safe dose hard to set.

Timing

  • Three trials split the daily amount into two doses of 100 mg or 250 mg.
  • One trial gave doses after main meals. No trial tested whether food or time of day changes the effect.
  • Any advice on the best time of day is not supported by these trials.
